(A Brief Period)

  • Lord Arundel: …At last, we are here. It has been a truly, truly long struggle.
  • Edelgard: Uncle… why are you here? We haven’t settled things yet.
  • Lord Arundel: In that case, all the more reason. I thought I’d like to see the final moments with my own eyes.
  • The moment humanity will be freed… from the control of that beast of a false goddess…
  • Edelgard: …Understood.  Feel free to watch as long as you don’t get in the way of the troops.
  • Lord Arundel: Of course.  I can’t stand getting caught up in the fighting, after all.
  • When this war is over, a world in which the Empire rules over everything will come.
  • Edelgard: …It will not be everything.  I will only do what I can.
  • Besides, for the brief period until our reign is stabilized…
  • Uncle… No, all of you, I believe that your wisdom and strength are essential.
  • Lord Arundel: Indeed. We, too, must do what we can.
  • For a brief period, we shall land you our strength.
  • Edelgard: Yes… Please do.  For a brief period.
  • Edelgard: …Master, do you have a moment?
  •
  • > 「What is it?」
Edelgard: You might be thinking about how far we’ve come, but there’s something I want to tell you myself.
  • No, I’m sure you’ve already realized it… but still.
  • …What kind of person you are, what that power really is.  What we haven’t touched upon till now, the truth.
  •
  • > 「I’ve realized it」
Edelgard: Knowing you, I thought as much.
  • > 「What are you talking about?」
Edelgard: Don’t tell me you haven’t figured it out yet? Then all the more reason I must tell you.
  •
  • Edelagrd: You… just like Rhea, belong to the same family as the being called the goddess.
  • It is likely that since your mother was connected to the goddess, that blood had always been sleeping within you.
  • Five years ago when you awakened that power, I thought that you would join forces with Rhea.
  •
  • > 「Join forces?」
Edelgard: Yes, as you know… My goal was to break free from the rule of Rhea and the Goddess’s kin.
  • > 「Five years ago?」
Edelgard: It was at the Sealed Forest, when you returned from the eternal darkness.
  • My goal was to break free from the rule of Rhea and the Goddess’s kin.
  •
  • Edelgard: I was to eliminate Rhea and her allies, who used the Church of Seiros to rule Fodlan.
  • I swore to kill Rhea and release everybody, even if you turned to the enemy…
  • …But you chose the path to help me and oppose Rhea.
  • Of course I was glad, but at the same time, I had doubts[1]Possibly has a secondary meaning of “delusions”, things that prevent you from reaching enlightenment..
  • Doubts that, maybe this path was not the one that you were supposed to take.
  • While carrying those doubts, I relied on you, borrowed your power, and here we are today.
  •
  • > 「I understand everything」
    > 「Tell me once again」
    Edelgard: …Understood.
  •
  • Edelgard: Thanks for listening to me, Master… I’m glad we talked.
  • In a world without Rhea and her kin, I wonder what will become of you…
  • As for me, I don’t know. But to me, your existence is special.
  • 《Edelgard Support B?》
  • I hope that my existence has a special significance to you as well…
  • 《Edelgard Support A?》
  • A partner to share my burden with, and the only one who I can talk to on equal footing…
  • …It’s almost time. Let’s go, Master.
  • Lord Arundel: So, we have finally arrived. It has been a very, very long road.
  • Edelgard: Why are you here, Uncle? We haven’t prevailed just yet.
  • Lord Arundel: Even better. I decided I wanted to see the end with my own eyes.
  • The very moment that humans will finally be free from the control of that false beast of a goddess..
  • Edelgard: Understood. Behold to your heart’s content, just don’t get in our way.
  • Lord Arundel: Of course. I could not stand to be dragged into the fighting.
  • When this fight is over, a world completely controlled by the Empire will be upon us.
  • Edelgard: Not completely… I will only do what I must.
  • But until our reign becomes stable…
  • Uncle… No, all of you. I believe that your power and knowledge may be essential during that time of transition.
  • Lord Arundel: Perhaps so. We also will do what we must.
  • For that short while, we will lend your our strength.
  • Edelgard: Yes… We’re counting on you. For now.
  • Edelgard: Professor, may I speak with you?
  •
  • > 「What’s on your mind?」
Edelgard: I know the timing is less than ideal, but there’s something I need to tell you.
  • I imagine you’ve already sensed it, but even still…
  • I must tell you the truth…of the power you wield and of what you are.
  •
  • > 「I have sensed it too.」
    Edelgard: I expected as much.
  • > 「What are you talking about?」
Edelgard: Have you still yet to realize it? If so, then it’s absolutely vital that I tell you.
  •
  • Edelagrd: You, like Rhea, share a bloodline with the so-called goddess.
  • Your mother likely had some connection to the goddess, whose power has always been sleeping within you.
  • Five years ago when your power awakened, I was afraid you would choose to join with Rhea.
  •
  • > 「You thought I would join her?」
Edelgard: I did. As you know, my goal is to free our world from the control of Rhea and the other children of the goddess.
  • > 「Five years ago?」
Edelgard: Yes. In the Sealed Forest, when you returned from the eternal darkness…
  • As you know, my goal is to free our world from the control of Rhea and the other children of the goddess.
  •
  • Edelgard: I seek to obliterate her, as well as those around her who use the church’s power to control Fódlan.
  • I swore to free the people from Rhea by striking her down, whether or not it meant making an enemy out of you.
  • And yet…you came to my aid and chose to walk with me on the path against Rhea.
  • I was overjoyed of course, but I was also confused.
  • I thought that perhaps it wasn’t the path you were meant to take.
  • But I chose to trust in you, to rely on you and your strength. And now, here we are.
  •
  • > 「I understand everything」
  • Edelgard: Thank you for listening, my teacher. I’m glad I finally had the chance to talk to you about it.
    > 「Tell me once again」
    Edelgard: Of course…
  •
  • Edelgard: After Rhea is gone from this world, I don’t know what will become of you.
  • But whatever happens, I hope you know that you’re very special to me.
  • 《Edelgard Support B?》
  • I hope that I hold a special place in your heart as well. But regardless…
  • 《Edelgard Support A?》
  • You are the one person in this world who can share the heavy burden I must carry. Someone without equal who I can always speak my mind to…
  • It’s time. Let’s go, Professor.

Opening 2

  • The Imperial army arrives in Fhirdiad, the Kingdom Capital, only to be confronted by Rhea–who has transformed into the Immaculate One. The Black Eagle Strike Force steels itself for an epic final battle, hoping to soon return Fódlan to its people.

Event: 決戦 (The Decisive Battle)

  • Edelgard: Rhea! And the Church of Seiros! Further conflict is surely meaningless!
  • Tell me, what can you do by shutting yourself in the capital without a king?!
  • …I will only give you one chance.
  • Throw away your weapons and surrender! Unlike you, we will not commit acts like slaughter!
  • Hubert: …There is no response. Shall we begin the attack?
  • Edelgard: I’ll wait for a bit. There are many inhabitants in the city.
  • Unlike the time we attacked Garreg Mach five years ago, the church isn’t letting the citizens evacuate.
  • What in the world are they planning…
  • Catherine: Lady Rhea.  Er, I mean Lady Seiros. The Imperial Army is appealing for our surrender.
  • Is it really okay to ignore them?
  • Perhaps we could do something like leave Fodlan and devise a solution?
  • Rhea: There will be no surrender. We must not lose.
  • I will never yield to those evildoers, even if the heavens are torn apart.
  • Catherine: …Understood. I will do as you say.
  • No matter what, until my dying breath.
  • Cyril: I, too, will accompany you. Until the end… wherever you go…
  • Rhea: …Now then, Catherine.  Set fire to the city.
  • We will burn the invading Imperial army to nothing with the fires of purgatory.
  • Catherine: …?! That’s…!
  • Rhea: Catherine.
  • Catherine: As… you wish… For the sake of victory, right?
  • Rhea: I have no need for stupid questions. I will sacrifice whatever it takes.
  • That apostate that is stealing everything from me… I shall crush them with my own hands.
  • The White One: Guooooooon!
  • Edelgard: …! That voice…
  • Imperial Soldier: Your Majesty! Your Majesty!  Smoke is rising from all over the royal capital!
  • Apparently, it appears they’ve set fire to the city!
  • Edelgard: What the…! Rhea… I guess it means there’s already nothing you won’t do!
  • Everyone, we attack at once.  Are preparations complete?
  • Hubert: Yes… All present and correct.  We can attack anytime.
  • Edelgard: Attack straight through to the Fhirdiad’s royal palace and kill the enemy leader, Rhea… “The White One”!
  • This is the end of the war… Once we win this battle, Fodlan will be one!
  • The royal capital we’re attacking is enveloped in a blaze but… Everyone, do not rush to your death.
  • Survive, win, and usher in a new era together with me.  Understood?!
  • Hubert: Of course.  If I died, there wouldn’t be anyone to protect you…
  • For the sake of you living a fulfilling life, I will win and survive.
  • Petra: I, bear the burden of, Brigid’s future. This, the place where I die, it will not be.
  • I will win.  For myself, for everyone, for Teacher!
  • Caspar: Aah, this is the path we carved out. We’ve got to see it through to the end.
  • Plus if I died here, wouldn’t all the military accomplishments I’ve accumulated up to now be meaningless?
  • Dorothea: Don’t worry, Teacher, Edel-chan. After all, I’m also still unwed…
  • After this war is over, I wonder if I can get married?
  • Lindhart: To have come this far, I’ve barely noticed it…
  • When it’s peaceful, I wonder if I can study however I want. If so, let’s get this over with quickly.
  • Bernadetta: Edelgard! Teacher! I’ll also do my best!  I’ll do it!
  • After all, if I die in a place like this, I’d be a disgrace shame of a shut-in!
  • Ferdinand: I will stand by you and Teacher after unification. I shall lead us to victory without incident.
  • For that is my duty as a proud noble, and the destiny I have assigned myself!
  •
  • > 「Everyone, let us survive and win!」
Edelgard: Imperial Army… and thus the Black Eagle Strike ForceSchwarz Adler Wehr, to battle!
  • Edelgard: Rhea! Members of the Church of Seiros! Surely there’s no reason to continue this fight.
  • What could possibly be gained by shutting yourselves inside the capital of a kingdom without a king?
  • I will give you this one chance…and no other.
  • Throw down your weapons and surrender! Unlike you, I have no desire to unleash wicked atrocities upon this world!
  • Hubert: Their silence speaks volumes. Shall we commence our attack?
  • Edelgard: I’ll wait just a moment longer. There are still many residents within the city.
  • Unlike my attack at Garreg Mach five years ago, the church will not allow the inhabitants to evacuate.
  • What the hell are they planning…
  • Catherine: Lady Rhea…Or rather, Lady Seiros. The Imperial army is calling for our surrender.
  • Is it wise to ignore them?
  • Perhaps we could leave Fódlan and devise another plan…
  • Rhea: We shall not surrender. We must not lose!
  • Even if it must split the heavens, we shall not yield to the wicked ones!
  • Catherine: Understood… I will do as you command.
  • You have my fealty no matter what, until my last moment of life.
  • Cyril: I’ll stay by your side too…forever.
  • Rhea: Now, Catherine. Set fire to the city.
  • The Imperial army will burn in the flames of eternal torment!
  • Catherine: What?! No, you can’t do that!
  • Rhea: Catherine. Now.
  • Catherine: As…as you wish. But is there truly no other way?
  • Rhea: I have no patience for foolish questions. I shall sacrifice as many lives as it takes!
  • That apostate who insists on taking everything from me…will by crushed by my own hands!
  • The Immaculate One: GRAAAARGH!
  • Edelgard: That ghastly voice…
  • Imperial Soldier: Your Majesty! There’s smoke coming from every corner of the capital!
  • It seems they’ve set fire to the city!
  • Edelgard: What?! Damn it, Rhea. There really is no depth you wouldn’t sink into.
  • Everyone, we must commence our attack at once. Are you ready?
  • Hubert: Preparations are complete. Just say the word.
  • Edelgard: Then we attack. We’ll head straight for the castle and strike down their leader–Rhea, that vile creature called the Immaculate One!
  • This is the end of our long war. After this victory, Fódlan will finally be united and truly free!
  • The capital we’re about to invade is engulfed in flames. Do not rush to your deaths.
  • Survive. Prevail. Do that and we’ll witness the birth of a new world. I want to see it with all of you at my side. Understood?
  • Hubert: Of course. I will not fall and leave you without your protector.
  • That you may live to see your dream to fruition… For that, I shall survive and prevail!
  • Petra: I am carrying the future of Brigid. I will not be dying here!
  • I will be winning. For myself and everyone, I will be surviving!
  • Caspar: We’ve been cutting our own path this whole way. There’s no stopping until we reach the end!
  • I can’t die, or all my great work so far will have been wasted!
  • Dorothea: Don’t worry about me, Edie. I won’t fall before I’ve found my happily ever after.
  • Maybe when this war is over I can finally snag a good catch and settle down!
  • Lindhart: Somehow we’re already here…
  • I wonder if the peace we secure will allow me to research as much as I’d like. If so, let’s end this quickly!
  • Bernadetta: Edelgard! Professor! I’ll do my best for both of you!
  • If I die here, it would be with shame and regret… Oh, I can’t let that happen!
  • Ferdinand: Once the world is united, I will lend my strength to both Edelgard and the Professor. To that end, I will lead us all safely to victory!
  • My pride and duty as a noble demand no less! As do my own principles!
  •
  • > 「Let’s win this, together!」
Edelgard: Imperial army! Black Eagle Strike Force! Move out!

(The Battle of Fhirdiad)

  • Edelgard: Those who stand in our way will be extinguished with the flames. “The White One”… You die here now!
  • Catherine: Lady Rhea… Thanks to the blaze set to the city, the enemy cannot move to crush using a large group.
  • They might try to aim for us with a small number of elite forces…

  • Edelgard: I had no intention of betraying.  I never believed in you… from the beginning!
  • Before Battle Start
  • Edelgard: At last, we made it to Fhirdiad, but…it’s in a pitiful state.

  • Edelgard: Those who stand in our way will perish with the flames. Immaculate One…your reign ends, here and now!

  • Instead, they may try to defeat us with small squads of elite warriors.
  • The Immaculate One: Indeed, I suspect as much.
  • And at their head is the one who stole my mother from me and likely that mutinous whelp, Edelgard.
  • Battle Start

  • Catherine: Lady Rhea… My service ends here. It’s been an honor.

  • Byleth vs The Immaculate One
  • The Immaculate One: Give her back… Give back my mother!
  • Gaaaaaah!
  • Edelgard vs The Immaculate One
  • Edelgard: So it’s true. You don’t value human life at all. Isn’t that right, Immaculate One?
  • The Immaculate One: Nonsense! Fools who do not accept their own sins are undeserving of salvation!
  • You humans are the ones who betrayed! You betrayed me, and you betrayed my mother!
  • Edelgard: I did not betray you or her. I never believed in you from the beginning.

Ending

  • History follows the traces of time and a new flame is lit in the land of Fodlan…
  • With the surrender of the royal capital Fhirdiad, the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus and the Church of Seiros disappeared from Fodlan’s history.
  • Herein, the Adrestian Empire that crowned Emperor Edelgard accomplished the unification the entire land of Fodlan.
  • Edelgard, by imposing the centralization of power, turned her attention to begin work on reforms to abolish the system of nobility and set out to realize a new world unbound by social status or crest.
  • Behind the scenes, she adopted a stance of clear opposition to “those who squirm in the dark” who once cooperated with the Empire, and thus a war in a place where the sun does not reach had quietly broken out.
  • A rising flame was alight as the flow of time carved a new history for Fódlan.
  • With the fall of Fhirdiad, the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus and the Church of Seiros both vanished into the people’s memories.
  • Fódlan was finally one unified nation, under the rule of Emperor Edelgard and the Adrestian Empire.
  • Embracing her newfound power, Edelgard could at last set about destroying Fódlan’s entrenched system of nobility and rebuild a world free from the tyranny of Crests and status.
  • Yet beneath the surface, an unseen and silent struggle began to take shape. From her seat of power, Edelgard could at last wage war on those who slither in the dark.

  1. hey. i am a fellow translator, and really admire the work you’ve done. but i’m appalled that fans of edelgard have gotten you to remove a factually true statement about her authoritarian government from your overview. they are just upset that their digital girlfriend is not as good as they thought she was, and are taking it out on you when you don’t deserve it. i’m looking forward to your future translations.

    • They did? I didn’t know that, since from reddit where they posted their work until ch15 i have never seen such pressures.
So, the correct translation is authoritarian government and not centralization?

    • Hey self-proclaimed translator-san, you wanna google “中央集権制” for me and tell me the first result? And while you’re at it, you want to read that Japanese wikipedia article on centralisation, where they list the constitution enacted during the Meiji Restoration?

      • What an lying prick

        @anon
Don’t judge him/her/xer too harshly, he/she/xer probably suffers from Edelgard Derangement Syndrome

        • are you referring to me when you speak of “edelgard derangement syndrome”? i have no idea what you are talking about. furthermore, if you google 中央集権制, the first result is the wikipedia page for the official definition of the word. i’m assuming it mentions the meiji restoration period because the meiji restoration happened after the edo period, which was a centralised military dictatorship. but do go on.

      • if you google 中央集権制, the first result is the wikipedia page for the official definition of the word. i’m assuming it mentions the meiji restoration period because the meiji restoration happened after the edo period, which was a centralised military dictatorship. but do go on.

without us, you would have never been able to read the authentic story of fuukasetsugetsu, so you ought to be less vile the next time you address us about our capabilities.

        • also, because i really am not liking the idea of you coming for me again simply for stating a translator doesn’t have to censor themself to keep others from being upset:

yes, the meiji era was centralised. centralisation alone is not the problem: it is the extreme centralisation of authority (power) that is, which is what edelgard does.

          • You’re acting like I’m not a translator myself lmfao. But please, do go on about how I need you to spell out the “authentic story of fuukasetsugetsu” (lol) for me, especially when you’re just getting your definition off of jisho, instead of confirming things with actual Japanese dictionaries and encyclopedias. You’re also acting like translators don’t make mistakes, and if that were the case, none of us would be here at all. So sure, call that “censorship” when quite frankly, it’s apparent that you have a biased interpretation of things that are affecting your own translations because of your digital boyfriend or whatever.

Extreme centralization, which is what leads to authoritarianism, isn’t stated in the original text at all. That’s something you’re bringing in yourself, which you just admitted since you said “the official definition of the word” is the first result when you google search it – which is that Japanese Wikipedia article I mentioned earlier, the one that has “centralisation” written in plain English in the first sentence.

And by the way, you’re also ignoring the fact that centralization is a response to ending feudalism, which is what we have in 3 Houses since the noble landholders are called 領主. The 3 lords can also be considered equivalent to daimyos because the Book of Seiros, Part I in the library uses the phrase This is what happened with the Meiji Restoration, where the Tokugawa shogunate, the feudal Japanese government, was toppled in favor of the monarchy set forth by the Meiji Constitution, centered around the Emperor with an elected Diet. Obviously it had issues, but if you think FE3H is uncritically romanticizing the Meiji era, you’re wrong. I’m going to have to ask you to open up a history book yourself if you want the full details, but a large part of Japan’s descent into fascism was the propagation of bushido moral education… Now, think about which nation in the game is obsessed with chivalry and has a culture to fight to the death for their king, to the point that they suicidally turn themselves into Demonic beasts. Not to mention Felix is a walking samurai trope.

Anyway I’m going to stop polluting this kagiyama’s poor comment section with this, since it was an honest mistake/unintentional. Hope you get well soon!

    • What an lying prick

    • it was op’s own decision to remove that statement about edelgard’s authoritarian government, and even provided an explanation as to why they did. you act as if op was genuinely being bullied by edelgard stans into removing the statement, when all i’ve seen is one person disagreeing and asking what authoritarian meant in context.

as someone who doesn’t particularly like edelgard, and is also a translator, i think the removal of the statement is actually appropriate.

      • looking over my first comment, i commented in bad faith based on hearsay, and that was wrong for me to do. i would like to apologise for that, and for making fans of edelgard feel like they’d done something wrong.

i believe i’ve seen the same comment, it was pretty funny. the old alliance system was a roundtable, so that’s a pretty drastic change, wouldn’t you say? i think what matters most is that she’s consistently shown as wanting all the power for herself (she states as much, several times) and she does that in her ending. there’s more to her actions taken throughout all four of the routes than just consolidating all the power that all subtly reinforce this idea (so i wouldn’t say it comes out of the blue to me personally), but i’m not sure if op wants us to devolve into that discussion here, so i’ll just leave it at a difference in opinion or taste? we can agree to disagree, no problem.

  2. Thank you for your hardwork! I used to read your translation in reddit, and I am so happy this translation had finally done. Congratulations!
