Despite how simple this song first sounded, I found myself really struggling with this one.  Shinra-Bansho fit a few references in this song, some of which I’m sure I’ve missed.   From what I can tell, this song is about Suika’s drinking and why she does it.  Just like the original Broken Moon, it’s bubbly and upbeat but I feel it carries a very sad undertone to it.  Cheers!

  • Broken shards are shimmering; yes, it’s the Night Parade of 100 Demons[1]During the Night Parade of 100 Demons, the Oni come out to kill or kidnap humans who do not stay in their homes.  Suika, however, does not kill or kidnap humans and simply prefers to drink instead.  Suika is also known as the Tiny Night Parade of 100 Demons.

  • Give me now, your forbidden treasure[2]More specifically a Tamatebako, which is the Japanese equivalent of Pandora’s box.  The legend is that a fisherman saved a turtle’s life, and was rewarded with a visit Otohime’s palace.  He eventually got homesick, and Otohime allowed him to go home.  Otohime gave him a box and told him to never open it.  The man returned home but was saddened to learn that  300 years had passed and everything had changed.  In despair he opened the box, and instantly grew old.  Otohime had sealed away the fisherman’s old age in the box.
